Fall Clean-Up Made Easy: Refreshing Your Home for the Season
The arrival of fall signals one of those natural breaks in the year when many of us are inspired to declutter, refresh and clean-up around the home. We’re preparing to spend more time indoors in the months ahead, and want our home to be comfortable and clean. But there’s another important reason why a fall clean-up is due. Autumn marks peak allergy season for anyone who’s susceptible to mold, dander or ragweed (which really comes into its own around fall). If you don’t want to be wheezing and sneezing, follow these fall clean-up tips.
Run Your Air Purifier
Cleaning up is going to disturb all the dust, dander, pollen and spores that have been lying dormant in carpets, rugs, furniture, fabrics and bedding. That catches many of us by surprise, and instead of enjoying a breath of fresh air, we find ourselves struggling.
If you want to eliminate the sources of fall allergies rather than provoke them, make sure you’re circulating and cleaning your air.
- Start by opening the windows or vents to bring fresh outdoor air inside. It’s a good way to draw out any pet, tobacco or cleaning product odors (as well as harmful VCOs). Even 15 minutes is enough.
- Then close your windows and start running your Coway air purifier at high speed. You can manage this by remote control as you work around the room.
- Consider wearing a mask while you vacuum, sweep and dust since you’re up close and personal with the worst of the allergens as you clean.
- When you’re done, or moving to the next room, set your air purifier to Auto or Eco and it will adjust the volume and rate of air it filters according to conditions.
Change Your Air Filters
The HyperCaptiveTM Air Filtration in your Coway air purifier is manufactured to last. Typically, you’ll only have to replace it every 12 months. It’s a good idea to coordinate those changes with your spring cleaning and fall clean-up schedule to optimize your filter's performance for these two peak allergy seasons.
You can clean your Pre-filter as often as you like. It’s not a replaceable filter like the Green True HEPATM filter, so just rinse away any accumulated dander, dust, dirt and pollen and pop it back in for a fresh start.
Wrap Up and Reset
To mitigate the symptoms of allergies, run your air purifier a short while before you begin your fall clean-up, throughout the entire cleaning session, and for an hour or so after you’re finished. That’s especially important if you’ve put linen to launder, or sprayed your surfaces with polish. Both will release VOCs into the atmosphere and while they may smell fresh, they’re probably the reason why you’re sneezing. Wipe down your air purifier when you’re done with a damp cloth to remove any lingering allergens.
Bonus tip: Keep hydrated with plenty of pure, filtered water. Your body needs a lot of water to fight the inflammation that builds up when allergens are on the attack.

3Aerosol test conducted in a Biosafety level 3 laboratory with two Coway air purifier models, Coway Airmega 250 and 400 for removal of SARS-CoV-2 Aerosol by US based MRI Global, a not-for-profit laboratory and partner of US Department of Defense. The test was conducted in a 13.1ft3 chamber. Virus was aerosolized for 15 minutes and the product was turned on high for 2 minutes. Result showed each product effectively removed over 99.98% of the SARS-CoV-2 in 2 minutes. This is a result from a laboratory experiment condition and result may vary in different conditions. This result does not imply it kills SARS-CoV-2 or prevents the transmission of Covid-19. Coway Airmega 250S and 400S are identical to the tested models and has equal performance with an additional mobile connectivity function.

5The coverage area of the air purifier is based on an area where the air cleaner can make two air changes per hour (ACPH). An air change per hour translates to how many times an air purifier can clean an area, assuming the height of a ceiling to be 8 ft, in one hour. Therefore ** means two air changes per hour means that the cleaner can clean the area once every 30 minutes and * means air changes per hour means that the air purifier can clean the area once every 60 minutes.
